Should I Rent or Buy an RV?

Why You Should Buy an RV Instead of Rent:

You've landed on this page to learn more about RV rentals and availability. Pete's RV Center has been so busy selling new and used campers and motorhomes that we are currently not renting them.

With additional sales and customer service help required, Travel Rite RV Rental owner Chad Shepard closed his successful business of 17 years and is now an integral part of the Pete's RV Center team. To find out if and when Pete's RV Center will start renting RVs again, sign up for our informative monthly newsletter.

A very common question for individuals that are new to camping is whether they should rent an RV or buy one.

Chad Shepard's professional experience makes him an excellent resource on weighing the benefits of renting versus owning an RV. He believes frequency of use, financial investment, and convenience are all important factors in steering you towards a decision that works best for your family.

Important Factors When Deciding to Rent or Buy

Frequency of Use

If you camp more than 3 times per season, consider purchasing an RV. Prices to buy outright versus rental rates are comparable if you camp a lot - especially on used travel trailers and fifth wheels.

Financial Investment

If camping becomes an annual event, purchasing an RV should become a consideration over renting one. Much like purchasing a home, monthly payments can be spread out over time and an RV can be claimed as a second--and potentially tax-deductible-residence

Convenience

For the first-time or occasional camper, renting does make the most sense. However, if camping becomes a regular and extended activity, owning an RV alleviates the tedious task of packing and unpacking after every trip. All of those extra blankets, towels, non-perishable groceries, kitchen utensils, and other camping necessities can stay neatly stored in your RV.

If you are a first-time buyer, we also recommend taking a look at our RV Buyer Frequently Asked Questions Guide. You'll find it extremely helpful! Always feel free to contact us with further questions.
